Founded in 2015 by Mike Thorpe, Sierra Safety Training Inc. services the General and Construction Industries in all aspects of Occupational Health & Safety with a focus on Fall Protection, Confined Space, Trenching, Powered Industrial Trucks, & First Aid. With over 20 years of personal experience in the safety industry, Mike brings unmatched expertise to every engagement.
In October of 2019, Sierra Safety Training acquired California Health & Rescue Training. Since its founding in 1995 by Kent Freeman, CHART has trained the Fire Service, as well as General and Construction Industries, in the proper techniques to enter and conduct rescues in Confined Spaces and Trenches. And to conduct Post Fall Rescue, Tower Rescue, and High Angle Rescue, along with other technical programs. I am very pleased to have CHART as part of the Sierra Safety Training Family and to continue to carry the torch of my long-time friend and mentor.

Mike is a 14-year veteran of the fire service with over 20 years of experience as an Occupational Trainer since 2005. As a firefighter/EMT, he trained in Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue, Rope Rescue, an many other disciplines. In 2005, he worked with a large nationwide construction company to develop the first of it’s kind low-risk post-fall rescue system which would not require rescuers to go over the unprotected edge. Mike is an OTI instructor for the Construction Industry and Instructor Trainer for First Aid.

Kent is a 30-year veteran of the Fire Service. He currently a retired Captain of the Roseville Fire Department in the greater Sacramento, California area. He is the author and developer of California State Fire Training Divisions, Confined Space Rescue "Awareness" program and served as the project leader for the Confined Space Rescue "Technician" program. He has worked extensively in Confined Space Entry/Rescue since 1989, assisting in the development of numerous teams and six permanent confined space rescue training centers as a Senior Confined Space Rescue technician instructor. He has completed work with Cal-OSHA on a project developing a text to guide general industry on developing regulatory compliant confined space entry programs.
